About Us

The team – James Broadbent MRICS and Mark Ferguson BSc, MRICS are the founders of Darwin Land. They are Chartered Surveyors with many years’ experience in planning, development and related matters. Our role is to appoint, manage and fund the necessary team of consultants and engineers to ensure that every project is run quickly and efficiently.

Mark Ferguson MRICS


Mark has been a Chartered Surveyor in the planning and land management industry for 20 years and for the last 8 years, has been in practice with James Broadbent in their own right, undertaking normal land agency work including acting for landowning clients in negotiation with Promoters. Mark and James have successfully acted as Promoters in their own right involving several sites, with a 100% success rate to date!

Mark is a highly focused individual, motivated by success, who will put in whatever it takes to make any project succeed.

When Mark is not pursuing his professional interests, he enjoys country sports and equestrian activities. In addition, Mark also manages his own property portfolio.

James Broadbent MRICS


Since qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1989, James has focused his attention in the specialist areas of town planning, property development and the compulsory purchase of land and buildings.  James has been able to advise landowners on more than 500 development projects across the UK. In addition, he manages a number of residential and commercial properties along with a 300-acre farm.

In his free time, James enjoys the outdoor hobbies including tennis, riding and skiing

Matthew Blantern BSc (Hons)

Graduate Surveyor

Matthew first joined Darwin Land Promotions as placement in 2017. Since then he has graduated from the Royal Agricultural University having studied Rural Estate and Land Management before rejoining in 2018 as a graduate.

He is currently progressing his APC and working towards qualified MRICS status, specialising in Planning and Development. Matthew aspires to become a respected and trusted expert in his chosen field.

When Matthew is not pursuing his academic and professional interests he enjoys, skiing, country sports and rugby.
